SUMMARY:The Sumerset Academy of N Las Vegas PTO
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1997\, Somerset Academy opened its’ first school in Miramar\, Florida\, with a population of just 50 students in grades Kindergarten through Five. The multi-age\, multi-level classrooms were the basis for the Somerset Academy elementary school philosophy and concept and have proven to be a successful innovation. \nOpening as an affiliate of the Somerset System\, a SACS-CASI accredited institution\, Somerset Academy of Las Vegas will implement the same best practices and commit to meet the same standards and quality indicators\, which make them eligible to pursue and receive accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Such commitment to implement best practices and quality standards have proven effective in raising student achievement annually for all student populations. \nThe proposed School is a replication of the Somerset Academy Charter School Instructional Model\, which has yielded over 20 high performing charter school programs in grades K-12 throughout the states of Florida and Texas.  Somerset Academy has developed a multi-tier system (management\, assessment and instruction and professional development) that integrates technology within the core curriculum and achieves increased performance across all student populations and subgroups. \nSomerset Academy has been able to implement unique and innovative strategies aimed at student achievement and has proven these strategies to be successful with all student populations. Thus\, having the combination of experience and a demonstrated track record of success with its programs\, Somerset Academy will thereby assist Somerset Academy of Las Vegas to promote increased student achievement for the students it expects to serve. \nSunBuggy is proud to donate to this worthwhile cause!  We are donating a package worth over $600 with the hope that it will benefit the Somerset Academy of North Las Vegas PTO.

SUMMARY:Discovery Children's Museum
DESCRIPTION:Prior to opening its doors in a new location at Symphony Park and with a new name\, the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum\, Lied Discovery Children’s Museum was located in the historic Cultural Corridor in Downtown Las Vegas. The museum’s co-founders\, Robin Greenspun and Mark Tratos\, arranged a partnership between the Junior League of Las Vegas and the Allied Arts Council founding a private\, nonprofit educational institution in 1984. A bond issue authorizing the building of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library and Discovery Museum in 1985 gave the museum a permanent home\, which opened its doors to the public on September 9\, 1990. \nOver the years\, the museum developed into a critical community asset that complemented and enhanced the educational experience of the children living in Southern Nevada and was regularly recognized for award-winning exhibits and programs. More than 2.2 million children and adults visited the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum. \nRealizing a years-long relocation plan\, the new museum opened March 9\, 2013 in the Donald W. Reynolds Discovery Center adjacent to The Smith Center in Symphony Park. Much more than just the relocation of the current museum\, the new museum helps redefine Las Vegas as a city that values culture and the arts\, an urban lifestyle and\, most importantly\, its children. Three-stories tall in stature\, the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum 58\,000-square-foot building is home to nine-themed exhibition halls totaling 26\,000 square feet of interactive hands-on core exhibits. The 5\,000 square foot Featured Exhibitions Gallery is large enough to accommodate major exhibits from the nation’s leading museums. The new location is a safe\, easily accessible\, family-oriented and energetic educational destination that offers visitors extraordinary learning experiences and enhanced school\, public and extended programs. \nSunBuggy is proud to donate to this worthwhile cause!  We are donating a package worth over $1200 with the hope that it will benefit the Discovery Children’s Museum.
